The impulse sealer is for sealing bags that you do not want to vacuum. This maybe a plastic bag or a thicker chip packet or bag of rice. The impulse sealer is more commonly known for sealing Mylar bags for long term storage. When sealing the Mylar bags with the impulse sealer you put an oxygen absorber in with the food and seal the bag with the impulse sealer leaving some air in the bag. The oxygen absorber removes the oxygen only and leaves the nitrogen in the bag which also aids in the preservation of the food in the Mylar bag.
